Industrial production systems are becoming increasingly digital and data-driven: complex, distributed systems must interact reliably, data streams must be available in real time, and decisions (increasingly AI-supported) must remain transparent and traceable. At the same time, requirements for security, resilience, and compliance are rising, particularly as IT and production systems become increasingly interconnected. Heterogeneous plant landscapes with high availability requirements further complicate the integration and testing of technologies during operation. Why FOKUS

Fraunhofer FOKUS combines software engineering with the understanding of industrial production environments. We address key needs: robust software systems, reliable communication and real-time data processing, secure and resilient information and communication systems and traceable AI. The goal is to develop interoperable solutions that integrate with existing architectures and withstand real-world operation.

Real-Time Communication for Industry

Real-time-capable, software-based communication platforms and network technologies for connecting people, machines, and locations in smart manufacturing.

Fraunhofer FOKUS develops solutions for networking within factory premises and across multiple locations, and – with temporary, nomadic 5G campus networks – also addresses flexible use cases, such as on construction sites or for the transmission of surveillance video.

Emergency and Crisis Information Systems

Information systems for hazard detection, warning, and the networking of control centers and crisis management processes in critical and security-relevant environments.
