Industrial production systems are becoming increasingly digital and data-driven: complex, distributed systems must interact reliably, data streams must be available in real time, and decisions (increasingly AI-supported) must remain transparent and traceable. At the same time, requirements for security, resilience, and compliance are rising, particularly as IT and production systems become increasingly interconnected. Heterogeneous plant landscapes with high availability requirements further complicate the integration and testing of technologies during operation. Companies are thus faced with the challenge of ensuring performance, flexibility, and operational safety in equal measure when integrating digital solutions into existing structures.
Why FOKUS
Fraunhofer FOKUS combines software engineering with the understanding of industrial production environments. We address key needs: robust software systems, reliable communication and real-time data processing, secure and resilient information and communication systems and traceable AI. The goal is to develop interoperable solutions that integrate with existing architectures and withstand real-world operation.
