EUWARN

The warning system of the EU Commission

The warning system EUWARN has been used by the European Commission since 2019 to warn employees on its premises in the event of danger. The warnings are location-based and reache those affected directly via smartphone app.

EUWARN is technically based on the well-established KATWARN system, which was also developed in the ESPRI business unit, and is specially designed to meet the needs of the EU Commission: The warnings come directly from the EU Commission's Security Directorate and can only be received internally by the Commission’s employees. Thus, they cannot be viewed by outsiders. Thanks to the KATWARN roaming technology, EUWARN can be used across borders. Currently, it is used on premises in both Belgium and Luxembourg and can also be used by other EU institutions at their locations in the future. The warnings are sent out in German, English and French.
