Software-based Networks

With a view to 5G evolution towards 6G and emerging technologies like Edge Computing, non-terrestrial networking, OpenRAN, and THz RAN, the business unit Software-based Networks (NGNI) is working on real-time capable, software-based mobile communication platforms. They enable highly customized but open mobile network implementations, e.g., private campus networks for smart manufacturing or public safety. The business unit Software-based Networks provides a 3GPP standard-based core network that supports a standalone architecture and can be integrated with various fronthaul and backhaul networks, including Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) and satellite networks. Furthermore, the team works on the automated end-to-end orchestration and management of communication networks by means of AI/ML in order to support future business models and network operation modes.
