Dr.-Ing. Marius-Iulian Corici

Deputy Director NGNI

Marius Corici has received his Diploma-Engineer degree in September 2005 at the “Politehnica” University of Bucharest on the subject of nomadic VoIP infrasrtructures for environments with extremely limited resources with a practical customization of the SIP Express Router platform. During the 5-year study at the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computers he followed the Computer Engineering – Science of Systems and Computers program on base software, compilers and computer networks.

In 2013, he has received his doctoral degree from the “Technische Universität” Berlin on “Self-Adaptable IP Control in Carrier Grade Mobile Operator

Networks” which included the development of dynamic network management concepts on top of the 3GPP Evolved Packet Core with a practical implementation on top of the OpenEPC platform.

Expertise

Marius joined the Business Unit “Next Generation Network Infrastructures” (NGNI) of Fraunhofer FOKUS Institute in 2005. Currently he holds the position of deputy director of the same business unit, leading the Reliable Network Infrastructure (RNI) team responsible for the development of the Open5GCore, OpenSDNCore and Open5G-MTC toolkits acting as a research pathfinder for the evolution of the digital networks towards vertical sectors and customization of massive core networks. The toolkits are designed to foster the adoption of novel technologies through practical experimentation on realistic comprehensive testbeds.

Besides these activities, Marius is managing various industrial research projects in the context of Next Generation Mobile Networks at Fraunhofer FOKUS Institute including concept, design, specification and  patent assessment and submissions together with operators, vendors and universities.
