SMARTEDGE enables dynamic integration of distributed intelligent edge services. Integration together with reliability, security and privacy is achieved by enabling semantic-based interoperation of edge devices via a cross-layer toolchain

The project “6G Native Extensions for XR Technologies” – 6G NeXt, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), aims to develop a scalable, modular and flexible infrastructure enabling a variety of industrial and end-user use cases with requirements exceeding those of today's 5G network in terms of intelligence, performance and efficiency.

No product is safe from counterfeiters, whether it's sneakers, chainsaws, medicines, or FFP2 masks. At the same time, consumers hardly have a chance to detect such pirated products. Especially in medical products and pharmaceuticals, there is also a considerable health risk from counterfeit products. Therefore, the Smart ID project is developing a novel labeling system that can be used to verify the authenticity of products.

For people, lifelong learning means constantly working on expanding knowledge and developing their skills and abilities. The technology partners of the BMBF-funded EXPAND+ER WB³ project develop a scalable platform that protects privacy and enables users to search for and receive recommendations for further education courses.

The aim of the project is to digitally complement or even replace classic event formats by using new immersive media formats when physical presence is not possible. The new media formats, include for example 3D audio, 360° videos, light fields and volumetric videos.

In TRIPLEADAPT, an adaptive, interoperable professional education platform will be created via the development of a digital triplet. Digital learning environments will then be extended by learning concepts with the aim of increasing learning success. 

With the Control & Connect project, the project partners aim to promote seamless access to digital educational media for users, e.g., students and teachers, in line with the digitization strategies of the federal and state governments.

The BEST project will develop, implement, and study a power market bidding system (SMBS) that will enable power trading between facilities on the power grid. Participating plants - regardless of type (consumer, generator, storage) and power class (household or industrial) - are connected to and controlled by the SMBS via a central management system. Interfaces to smart meter gateways and an energy management system will be used to control downstream equipment and check and automatically bill the actual electricity flow.

The Corona pandemic saw a shift of teaching and learning into the digital space. For students and teachers, this presented a number of organizational, technical, and didactic challenges. In particular, the numerous isolated solutions offered by various educational institutions made it difficult for users to take full advantage of digital learning. The National Education Platform, initiated by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), now aims to provide a technical meta-platform based on open standards that creates the foundation for a interconnected, powerful and interoperable teaching-learning infrastructure. The Common Learning Middleware (CLM) developed by Fraunhofer FOKUS was selected by the BMBF as a prototype of the National Education Platform within the framework of the “mEDUator” project.
