Standardization departments in companies are facing major challenges today. In light of the swift pace of development in science and technology, rapidly changing preferences on the demand side and dynamic market developments, it is no longer enough to respond to changes reactively. To create competitive advantages in global markets, standardization must be carried out proactively. Proactive standardization involves identifying relevant developments in science and technology early on and adjusting the standardization strategies accordingly. It is equally important to take a proactive approach when competitors change their strategy. Finally, trends relevant to standardization must be quickly identified on the demand side as well and integrated into a company’s own innovation strategy. The goal of this project is to use the available information concerning research funding, science, technology and trends in the current standardization landscape to make concrete statements regarding the standardization activities that will be necessary in the future.
