Smart Wearables

June 01, 2014 to Dec. 31, 2014

In the Smart Wearables project, Fraunhofer FOKUS is developing prototypes of smart wearable devices and M2M application for precisely locating objects and people. The researchers are using the latest technology to guarantee reliable indoor and outdoor tracking while ensuring maximum user-friendliness and intuitive operation. The design is focused on creating wearable devices that are light and inconspicuous so they do not bother the user. At the same time, the devices are resistant to shock, water, dirt and dust. The challenge in this project is to technically implement the required functions and features while simultaneously making devices that are affordable enough for private use. The Internet of Things (IoT) fields of application for smart wearables are very diverse and range from travel gear for extreme sports enthusiasts, through activity trackers to protect children, all the way to GPS tracking systems for monitoring and controlling objects and vehicles for logistics and transportation.
