Study on the Interaction between Open Source Software and FRAND licensing in Standardisation

According to the communication of the European Commission “Setting out the EU approach to Standard Essential Patents”, the Commission announced to “work with stakeholders, open source communities and SDOs for successful interaction between open source and standardisation, by means of studies and analysis”.
The study on the Interaction between Open Source Software and FRAND licensing in Standardisation on behalf of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission is part of this initiative. This study will be conducted by the Fraunhofer Institute of Open Communication System FOKUS and Mirko Böhm representing the Open Invention Network.
Within the study, a review of the literature, case studies and a survey will be conducted. In order to allow communities to provide input to case studies and participate in the survey, stakeholders are invited can contact Prof. Dr. Knut Blind or Mirko Böhm.
