DIN SPEC for the development of quantum computing interface published
The new DIN SPEC 91520:2025-09 is the first guideline for an interface for quantum computing. Fraunhofer FOKUS was responsible for project management, coordinated the contributions of the working group and developed the specification together with its partners.
DIN SPEC 91520:2025-09 defines, for the first time, a uniform network interface through which complete quantum programs – not just individual circuits – can be transferred from software frameworks or programming languages to quantum computer backends. This enables technology-neutral communication for all gate-based quantum computers. It also avoids vendor lock-in effects and redundant isolated solutions. In addition, it enables users in industry and research to integrate new hardware and software into quantum computers more quickly.
DIN SPEC 91520:2025-09 now provides a central building block for open, scalable quantum computing ecosystems.
