Dr. rer. nat. Armin Wolf

Biography

Dr. Armin Wolf studied computer science with a minor in mathematics at the University of Karlsruhe. After completing his studies, he joined the Technical University of Berlin as a research assistant, then moved to what was then the GMD Institute for Computer Architecture and Software Engineering (FIRST) in Berlin. In 1999, he received his doctorate with distinction from the Technical University of Berlin. His dissertation was awarded the prize for best dissertation of the year by the GMD, enabling him to spend the turn of the millennium as a research fellow at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Since 2004, he has held management positions at Fraunhofer FIRST. He initially headed the Planning Technology research group, then the Modelling department from 2011, and since 2013, together with Dr. Thomas Luckenbach, he has been head of the IT4Energy Competence Centre at Fraunhofer FOKUS, which they founded at that time.

The computer scientist has been involved in IT research and development projects for more than 20 years. The topics he has worked on range from the development and combination of operations research and artificial intelligence methods for solving complex resource planning and scheduling problems to declarative programming paradigms and interactive management solutions. His current research focuses on the development of methods and solutions for intelligent energy management in the context of decentralised energy producers and consumers, taking into account different framework conditions and target criteria.
