Quality Engineering Projects

Up to one hundred computers in a car ensure a safe drivability. Automotive manufacturers and suppliers work together in the development of such software systems. The Symphony Project integrates development data from various data sources at BMW into one data model and tests the consistency to ensure the eventual compatibility and necessary software quality of the individual components.

In the METAR project, Fraunhofer FOKUS supports the BMW Group by assisting them with different work packages and groups of the AUTOSAR development partnership. Scientists from Fraunhofer FOKUS work on the development of AUTOSAR interchange formats and the configuration of AUTOSAR basis software modules.

aXBench is a softwaretool that makes it possible to realize different system variants in automotive engineering in compliance with the AUTOSAR standard. With aXBench, SQC has established a prototype for the function-oriented development of embedded systems in a vehicle.

The changes in energy policy pose new challenges to the power grid. Thermal power stations, windmills, photovoltaic plants as well as energy accumulators shall all be fed into the power supply system without causing any fluctuations. The control of such decentralized systems is performed using the VHPready standard.

Standardized communication protocols and technical specifications do require unique descriptions for testing. Scientists of Fraunhofer FOKUS are part of the Special Task Forces (STFs) and Testing Task Forces (TTFs) of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), whose objective it is to define test specifications using TTCN-3 and to maintain TTCN-3.

Within the scope of the project IoT an IoT testware is to be developed. The testing and certification of IoT solutions is to be made cost-effective for manufacturers. The focus is on systematic inspection processes and test methods in order to prove the technologies demonstrably and to improve the quality of IoT solutions.

Within the VARIES project 23 partners from seven European countries work on maximizing the potential of variability in safety critical embedded systems, which underlie additional requirements. Therefore, the VARIES project team will develop an extensible reference platform for the “Variability Management”.

The ReqMech project intends to develop and deliver a Requirements Engineering Framework that enhances the product development process of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the field of mechatronics.

The SPRINT project - short for Software Platform for Integration of Engineering and Things - aims at overcoming the challenges presented by today's silo'ed approach, where the actual integration and testing of various components is only possible once a system can be completely assembled.

In the SANDMAN project, Fraunhofer FOKUS has developed an AI based predictive maintenance solution for smart pipes able to detect potential leakages and their corresponding positions in time.
