Quality Engineering Projects

In water management, methods, tools and data for interdisciplinary research work have lacked in many cases to date. The project “Data4Water - Excellence in Smart Data and Services for Supporting Water Management” is now intended to advance this research and make results available to other stakeholders.

The SPRINT project - short for Software Platform for Integration of Engineering and Things - aims at overcoming the challenges presented by today's silo'ed approach, where the actual integration and testing of various components is only possible once a system can be completely assembled.

The development of quantum algorithms, potentially exponentially faster than classical algorithms, is attracting widespread interest in business and science. To implement these algorithms in accessible and user-friendly quantum programming the project “Qompiler - Standardized Quantum Software Stack” a software stack with a higher-level quantum programming language is being developed.

The project SchleusenNOK40 enables improved lock management through data-based traffic forecasts and knowledge-based planning and optimization processes. A planning and information system was developed for this purpose as part of the project. The aim is to provide better support for lock personnel in their decisions. Waterway users can thus obtain improved information about possible waiting and clearance times at the locks for their own planning.

Digitalisation also does not stop at the craft trades. The “DigiHand” collaborative project shows how this sector will be working in the future. A traveling exhibition of the same name shows the results of the project.

TAG CLOUD is a European project co-funded by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission that will generate lifelong engagement with cultural heritage through social media, augmented reality and storytelling applications based on the cloud.

The joint research project “Stadt-Land-Fluss (SLF)” developed a sustainable solution for strengthening “regional food systems” using various AI tools based on a multi-layer “SLF-ICT ecosystem” as a service and integration platform as part of the research focus “Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agriculture, the food chain, healthy nutrition and rural areas”.

Standardized communication protocols and technical specifications do require unique descriptions for testing. Scientists of Fraunhofer FOKUS are part of the Special Task Forces (STFs) and Testing Task Forces (TTFs) of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), whose objective it is to define test specifications using TTCN-3 and to maintain TTCN-3.

In the EXPAND+ER WB³ project, the vision of educator Otto Herz is applied to the field of vocational education. The technology partners of the BMBF-funded EXPAND+ER WB³ project develop a scalable platform that protects privacy and enables users to search for and receive recommendations for further education courses.

The ProEnv project is working on smart production and maintenance environments of the future.
