AI for Safe and Scalable Rail Automation

Fraunhofer FOKUS develops technologies for train automation. Our AI-based perception for the rail environment and high precision localization enable automated train operation beyond highly controlled test sections. By fusing sensors such as LiDAR and cameras, our systems reliably detect tracks, people, and obstacles in real time. We cover the entire end-to-end AI perception pipeline: from data labelling and training to validation. Our long-standing project experience feeds into applications such as a digital twin of the trackside environment.
