FAMIUM Media over QUIC – MoQ
Empowering contribution, sub-second streaming at scale and real-time communication
FAMIUM MoQ is the Fraunhofer FOKUS implementation of Media over QUIC (MoQ), the emerging IETF standard that unifies media contribution and distribution over QUIC. Relay-based publish/subscribe delivery brings sub-second latency to CDN scale, and playback runs natively in the browser via WebTransport. Direct device-to-relay transmission without traditional media servers simplifies workflows for live events, remote production and interactive services. FAMIUM MoQ adds adaptive bitrate streaming, dynamic ad insertion (DAI) and playback analytics, validated with our FAMIUM Streaming Media Test Suite. At the booth, we measure glass-to-glass latency live, from camera to screen.
CleanFeed – Media Workflows with C2PA
Trusted media from capture to screen
CleanFeed is an end-to-end ecosystem for trusted digital media, built on the C2PA standard. It verifies the origin and integrity of content, its editorial review status and the use of AI, and detects tampering along the media workflow. CleanFeed combines video validation during playback, provenance visualisation, large-scale testing on consumer devices and trust analytics for news articles, turning technical authenticity checks into trust information that viewers understand. CleanFeed is a research project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), coordinated by Fraunhofer FOKUS with Deutsche Welle, G&L Geißendörfer & Leschinsky and castlabs.
FAMIUM Wattlify – Smart Energy Prediction
Making TV energy use visible
FAMIUM Wattlify is an AI-powered assistant that helps viewers and service providers understand the energy impact of media consumption. By estimating the power consumption of streaming devices, it makes the environmental footprint of digital media use transparent, gives personalised recommendations and helps providers offer more energy-efficient media services. Through ZDF's Green TV-Buddy, viewers can understand and reduce the energy consumption of their own TV while streaming, without compromising picture quality. The Green TV-Buddy is shortlisted for the HbbTV Application Innovation Award 2026.
FAMIUM Streaming Media Test Suite
From automated testing to actionable insight
The FAMIUM Streaming Media Test Suite tests, debugs and validates the entire media streaming pipeline, from content conformance through player behaviour to playback on real devices. Its Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) Testbed automates player tests under varying network conditions using Selenium and Appium, and the Content Conformance Validator checks compliance with DASH, HLS and CMAF. Playback across devices and platforms, including HbbTV, is validated with the WAVE Streaming Media Test Suite Devices and camera-based observation of the real audio and video output, and web media APIs with the WAVE Streaming Media Test Suite User Agents. A SAND/CMCD analytics server, a central dashboard and GenAI-assisted analysis turn results into insight. The suite is used at HbbTV testing events and at the annual DTVP & DTG Plugfest hosted at Fraunhofer FOKUS.
