European Quantum Software Stack for Quantum Computers
The “Q-VERSE” project aims to develop a European Quantum Software Stack comprising components and tools for scalable, technologically sovereign and reliable software solutions that harness the computing power of quantum computers. The foundation for this is “Eclipse Qrisp”, an open-source framework for quantum programming initiated by Fraunhofer FOKUS. Our vision – “a Linux for quantum computers”. The kick-off event took place on 14 and 15 September.
The tools developed on the basis of “Eclipse Qrisp” can be used across platforms; in other words, they are not tailored to a specific hardware architecture. The aim is to develop a technologically independent and interoperable European quantum software stack – a kind of “Linux for quantum computers”.
Fraunhofer FOKUS, together with its project partners, aims to establish “Eclipse Qrisp” as the standard for programming quantum computers, thereby promoting the interoperability and accessibility of various quantum technologies. In future, developers will be able to write quantum applications independently of hardware using the tools developed in Q-VERSE.
In addition to Fraunhofer FOKUS, which is coordinating the project, 12 other partners are involved. The project “Quantum Virtual Ecosystem for a unified Runtime-agnostic Software Engineering” (Q-VERSE) is funded as a HORIZON Europe project.
