Generative AI: Use Cases for the Media, Culture, and Creative Industries
On 22 April 2026, the GenKI4Media user workshop took place at Fraunhofer FOKUS. Around 40 participants from academia and industry took the opportunity to exchange expertise and present current use cases of generative artificial intelligence (AI).
The event focused on the GenKI4Media research project (Generative AI Assistants for the Media, Culture and Creative Sectors), in which AI-supported assistants are being developed for the analysis, processing and generation of multimodal content. With initial project results, the workshop offered practical insights into the potential applications of generative AI, as well as a forum for discussing use cases from various industries.
Among other things, the presentation featured AI applications for validating standards and regulations, AI-assisted news publishing, 3D prototyping of scenarios, the generation of images, illustrations, and icons, as well as the translation of spoken language for media production. Other examples ranged from transparent, tamper-proof proof of authenticity for generated content, to support in emotionally stressful situations and AI-based assistance for Twitch streamers, to the review and explanation of decisions in the financial sector.
The event concluded with a panel discussion on current issues, such as opportunities and risks for SMEs, digital technical sovereignty, copyright and personality rights, as well as the quality and acceptance of AI application.
The GenKI4Media project will run until 31 January 2028 and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
The event was supported by Berlin Partner, medianet BB and ai.berlin.
