HMI 2024: CampusOS flagship project shows 5G campus networks in various applications

News from Apr. 08, 2024

The lead project CampusOS, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, will be showcasing how to successfully set up and operate a 5G campus network in industry at the Hannover Messe in the 5G Arena (Hall 15, booth H13) from April 22-26, 2024. Experience the new possibilities using representative application examples in Industry 4.0, logistics and robotics, safe teleoperated driving, on construction sites or in the clinic networked with 5G.

5G mobile technologies open up groundbreaking opportunities for companies to operate mobile networks independently with so-called campus networks. They allow the design of specialized communication solutions with high performance that meet the company's specific requirements and maintain data sovereignty. The CampusOS flagship project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), aims to develop an ecosystem for modular and open 5G campus networks and to explore application domains for 5G campus networks. This ecosystem is based on open radio technologies and interoperable network components and follows the OpenRAN principle. The project results guarantee manufacturer independence, more competition and innovations to strengthen the digital sovereignty of companies in Germany. In the CampusOS project, partners from industry and research are developing reference architectures and technologies tailored to the economy. They are also investigating various operator models and testing the interoperability and performance of the solutions in reference test fields, creating prototypes of 5G campus network solutions for different industries. The project is led by the Fraunhofer Institutes FOKUS and HHI.

At the exhibition booth, you will be able to meet campus network experts from research and industry and get to know the industrial communication of the future at first hand. A series of panels and presentations will provide further exciting insights into the topic.
