The project ELITE 2.0 presents a demonstrator platform in the form of a mobile IT security experience environment that can be dynamically adapted to different application scenarios. The exhibit makes IT attacks and IT security measures tangible on-site. Interested parties can experience various attacks using the demonstrators (based on SME typical workstations with corresponding hardware and software). Typical SME scenarios from everyday working life will be presented using several demonstrators.

The relevance of information security for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is often underestimated. Especially in light of the European Union's NIS2 and CER directives, which are due to be transposed into national law at the end of 2024, risks are not being recognized or are being misjudged.
Starting October 2024, the NIS2 Directive will require EU member state legislators to legally implement mandatory security measures and reporting obligations for many companies and organizations in 18 critical sectors – including many that were not previously affected. In comparison to the previous NIS Directive, NIS2 expands the affected parties as well as the obligations and official supervision. The CER Directive (CER = Critical Entities Resilience) obliges member states to identify critical facilities and strengthen their physical resilience to threats such as natural hazards, terrorist attacks or sabotage. The human factor is now the most prominent gateway for attackers on companies (e.g. through social engineering or phishing).
ELITE 2.0 is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy as part of the “IT Security in the Economy” initiative and is being carried out by the Fraunhofer Institutes FOKUS and IAO. The Cybersecurity Transfer Office is the central project of the initiative. The initiative relies on a large portfolio of associated partners for the broad dissemination of its project results. These include the DIHK, the BSKI, the BIGS, the BVMW, the Digital Agency Berlin and the Alliance for Security in Business, among many others.
At the Cybersecurity Learning Lab in Berlin, scientists from Fraunhofer FOKUS and the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW) develop training courses on the topics of secure software development and security testing, data protection and IT security, and certification of software products.

Fraunhofer and selected universities of applied sciences bring the latest findings from IT security research to companies, industry and public administration in a practical and application-oriented manner with the Cybersecurity Learning Lab (“Lernlabor Cybersicherheit”) training program. There are a total of six learning labs focusing on this topic in Germany.

Smartphone-based secure identities for global value chains through physical features in the barcode system
Fraunhofer researchers have developed a product authentication solution that enables tamper-proof QR codes and can be integrated directly into existing printing lines. The code combines conventional product information, data for the digital product passport, and an authenticity check. The solution is aimed at stakeholders who, in addition to meeting legal requirements, also want to ensure product protection and traceability. Fraunhofer IAP, Fraunhofer FOKUS, and Fraunhofer SIT are presenting the newly developed system at the Hannover trade show.
