Jens Hempel
TÜV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH, Grid Automation/Smart Grid Services
Mr. Jens Hempel is responsible for the Smart Grid Competence Center at TÜV Rheinland. In
his function he is (amongst others) engaged with the KNX, EEBus Initiative, the IP500
Alliance, the G3-PLC Alliance and the UCA International Users Group. He regularly
participates in Smart Home activities with focus on communication protocols and information
security. Being member of CIGRÉ he promotes the Grid Automation Service initiative of
TÜV Rheinland.
Prior to his engagement in Cologne, Germany he was involved in projects concerning
renewable energy (Wind, Fuel Cells, Solar Thermal, PV) and energy storage (Li-Ion,
Ultracapacitors) in the TÜV Rheinland Japan and India Offices. He’s engaged in IEC CAB
IECEE PSC WG2 with regards to Energy Efficiency and Smart Grids.
In his professional past he worked with NEC and Infineon, being involved in standardization
and interoperability testing.
