The BonFIRE (Building service testbeds for Future Internet Research and Experimentation) Project will design, build and operate a multi-site cloud facility to support applications, services and systems research targeting the Internet of Services community within the Future Internet. 

A group of 17 leading European telecommunications service providers, IT corporations, infrastructure vendors and academic institutions have launched “UniverSelf” a research initiative whose goal is to overcome the increasing complexity of managing communication networks and enable their future growth by generating innovations in autonomic networking – technologies that enable networks to manage themselves.

NGNI is taking the lead in the upcoming European project SCAMSTOP which will target scams and fraud detection in VoIP networks. In the project, fraud and service misuse in NGNs will be evaluated, and the necessary countermeasures will be suggested.

The project IP-Based Emergency Applications and ServiCes for NExt Generation Networks (PEACE), funded through the FP7 programme “Research for SMEs”, aims at providing a general emergency management framework (based on the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)) addressing extreme emergency situations such as terrorist attacks and natural catastrophes as well as day-to-day emergency cases such as calls to the police or fire brigade.  

The True Potential of SOA-Based SDPs over IMS – NGN Service Exposition, together with an open, flexible and intuitively understandable Service Creation Environment not only enables innovative business models for the telecommunication industry, but also for SMEs to enrich and facilitate their communication capabilities.

SPIDER (Spam over Internet Telephony Detection Service) is a research project supported within the Sixth Framework Programme of the EU Commission. The project acronym stands for "Spam over Internet Telephony Detection Service". With Voice over IP calls being offered for free or for a flat rate, Spam over Internet Telephony (SPIT) has at least the same potential to become a major annoyance for users worldwide, as it is the current situation with e-mail spam. The SPIDER project will deliver a solution to detect and prevent unsolicited VoIP calls and instant messages.

MAMS (Multi-Access, Modular-Services Framework) was a BMBF (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung) financed project which had its kick-off in March 2006. The goal of the MAMS project was the specification and provision of a novel, integrative and open NGN Service Delivery Platform (SDP) supporting future multimedia applications and services based on different network technologies and integrating multimedia and data to enable the provision of new services.

Mobility and Differentiated Services in a Future IP Network IST 2000 key action line IV 5.2 "Terrestrial Wireless System and Networks”. The project Moby Dick defines, implements, and evaluates an IPv6-based mobility-enabled end-to-end QoS architecture starting from the current IETF's QoS models, Mobile-IPv6, and AAA framework.

The three-year project ELIoT (Enhancing Lighting for the Internet of Things) aims to provide an open reference architecture for the support of the Internet of Things, as well as contributing to the standardization of applications based on the internet travelling over light.
