Dr. Zion Hadad

RunEL Next Generation Mobile Networks Ltd., Israel

Zion possesses extensive experience in the development of military and commercial communication systems with specialized expertise in the fields of Spread Spectrum (SS), Frequency Hopping (FH), Direct Spread (DS), CDMA and ECC Adaptive Array Technologies.

Dr Zion was the pioneer of OFDMA technology back in year 1997. Through the years 1990 -1994 he worked in US based companies and contributed to General Dynamics and participated in the development of the tactical SINCGARS project for the US army and later worked in Interdigital advancing the cellular Broadband CDMA (3G) for cellular market.

During this period, Zion finalized his PhD. he holds a PhD (honours) in Electrical Engineering from CUNY NY 1994. From 1995 Zion served as the Chief Scientist of the Tactical Communication Division of Tadiran (today Elbit systems) and from 1996 he served as VP of Business Development and Chief Scientist at InnoWave Tadiran/ECI, a wireless local loop company that merged into Alvarion. In this capacity, he initiated and led the CDMA Broadband projects.

In 1997 Zion pioneered the concept of OFDMA and began the Marathon of convincing the 1st tier companies on validity of the OFDMA technology in high mobility environment.

Zion founded Runcom and played the role of Chairman and CEO of Runcom until 2011, Runcom developed the first OFDMA operational System in 1999.

Zion was the first to file several patents on OFDMA technology and succeeded in introducing the OFDMA technology worldwide.

Runcom was the main contributor of the OFDMA technology with hundreds of Contributions that support to the DVB standard ratified in 2001 and named DVB- Return Channel Terrestrial.

In 2001 Runcom contributed and introduced the OFDMA technology into the IEEE standardization working group and maintained it by hundreds of contributions.

Runcom won the highest score and turned into the baseline for IEEE 802.16 a, d, e.

In 2005 the OFDMA became the main stream for the mobile WiMax. In 2006, the OFDMA concept was adopted as the standard of LTE 4G RAN downlink.

Currently, the revolution from CDMA to OFDMA as the new technology became reality and the 5G 3GPP decided to continue adoption OFDMA based concepts, currently it is expected to be the technology for the next two decades.

In 2015 Zion founded a new company named RunEL- Next Generation Mobile Technology, concentrating in 5G RAN technologies.

Runel Currently is dedicated to development of advanced 5G SoC and 5gNB meeting the future 5G standards.

Abstract

Design Considerations for an Ultra Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC)  5G Network

A system approach is required to reach the round trip low latency goals of the 5G URLLC networks, This presentation will describe the different methods and techniques applied in the 5G network layers and some unique system architecture approach that will lead to the desired goal.
