Wei-Cheng Yang is a Deputy Technical Manager with Broadband Networks System Testing Technology Department at Industrial Technology Research Institute. He is currently working on 4G+/5G end-end system integration for various vertical applications. In this work, he has been involved in network design、site evaluation for deployment of the end-to-end system, and solution validation. His interests include network engineering, requirement engineering, QoS and Application implementation. Prior to joining ITRI, he worked in the telecommunications industry for more than 15 years, He has in-depth knowledge and experience in radio testing technologies and has developed many test cases for mobile network while working in mobile operator’s Testing Lab.

Abstract

Testbed and Field Trial in Taiwan for Private 4G and 5G Networks

5G NR together with virtualized Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) and virtualized core network is envisioned to offer flexibility, scalability and ubiquitous access for various vertical applications with their own targeted QoS requirements. In this talk, we will present testbed/field trials under Taiwan’s 5G project. In particular, a pre-commercial field trial led by a local major operator and alliance members will be described. During the field trial, we focus on the design of a testbed for technology trials and pilot deployment to stimulate the development of 5G vertical application. We will also introduce Testbed in ITRI Campus and how we work together with Taiwan domestic industries to integrate and validate 4G and 5G Private network solution to meet business requirements of the vertical industries. In the end we will describe Taiwan’s first 5G Pre-commercial Field Trial at Taipei Music Center that collaborate with major mobile operator aim to serve both public and private use cases.
