Testing Industrial TSN

Abstract

Over the last few years, the benefit and potential of Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) standards has gained extreme increase of interest from companies in a vast number of different industries. One question that has not been sufficiently answered is how to assure the reliability and quality of a TSN network and its devices. Focusing on Industrial TSN and taking the example of the IEEE standard 802.1Qbu-2016 for frame preemption, it will be shown how a TSN test set-up can be established and how TSN protocols can be tested accurately to ensure the standard compliance of the device under test. Second focus of the presentation is giving an overview on existing initiatives, such as Fraunhofer‘s TSN Interoperability Lab, to help companies get access to TSN and to encourage those companies’ decision to utilize the benefits of this exciting new technology.
