B&R Industrial Automation GmbH, Germany
Dr. Dietmar Bruckner is with B&R Industrial Automation since 2013, where he is responsible for developments related to connectivity of devices, including Ethernet-based fieldbusses like B&R's POWERLINK. In cooperation with other OPC UA TSN Shaper companies he works on specifying OPC UA and TSN for broad industrial use. Earlier, Bruckner worked for 10 years at the Institute of Computer Technology of the Vienna University of Technology in the areas of building automation and artificial (general) intelligence. He is actively contributing and chairing work in the relevant standardization bodies for OPC UA and TSN.
End-to-End Performance of TSN Infrastructures
Abstract
TSN has recently generated deep interest in the industrial automation market as the enabler technology for converged networks, i.e. finally harmonizing Ethernet-based communication systems. True harmonization can only be achieved when incorporating field level and motion applications, which creates challenges in terms of performance and footprint.
This presentation will discuss key elements affecting achievable performance as well as modes of configuration of TSN that allow for fulfilling the requirements. It will be shown that (OPC UA and) TSN circuitry and interfaces can be designed to achieve and outperform fieldbus performance with competitive footprint utilizing state-of-the-art chip technologies.
