Augmented reality and object recognition at the Hannover Messe 2018
News from Apr. 17, 2018
The Berlin Center for Digital Transformation – a cooperation of the four Fraunhofer Institutes FOKUS, HHI, IPK, and IZM - will present its know-how for digitally networked production at the Hannover Messe 2018. The business unit VISCOM from Fraunhofer FOKUS will showcase its technologies for augmented reality and object recognition.
Digitalization will lead to new production processes in the factory of the future. Industry 4.0 and human-machine interaction will use augmented reality and object recognition technologies to control production processes through gestures.
A demonstrator for smart production environments at the Hanover Fair will demonstrate what such a manufacturing process could look like in the future. Visitors can use gestures to control the processing of a cube by a milling robot. To do this, they point with their finger at a surface or edge of the cube. Cameras detect the exact position of the workpiece and the area selected by the visitor. An augmented reality projection displays additional information on the workpiece at the corresponding position e.g. a symbol to be milled into the selected surface.
The example shows the potential that results from the combination of technologies for digitization and transformation and enables companies to experience and test sub-processes for production on site.
