IT security in medium-sized businesses

News from Apr. 15, 2021

TISiM - the transfer office for IT security in medium-sized businesses - today announces the launch of the Sec-O-Mat after a successful pilot phase. The tool bundles recommendations for action from a wide range of existing initiatives with offers for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the self-employed, freelancers, and skilled trades.

Based on an individual company survey, Sec-O-Mat delivers tailored action plans that provide concrete implementation proposals for needs-based measures to improve IT security. A personal action list reminds users of further optimization potential. At the same time, progress is tracked. In addition, 35 TISiM regional sites are now opening as TISiM regional points of contact.

Nadja Menz, IT security expert at Fraunhofer FOKUS and a member of the TISiM project team, explains: “With Sec-O-Mat, the TISiM consortium has developed a solution that enables small and medium-sized enterprises to detect potential IT threats without extensive preliminary work. With only a little effort, SMEs receive concrete implementation suggestions via the Sec-O-Mat, precisely tailored to their company.” Richard Huber, another IT security expert at Fraunhofer FOKUS and a member of the project team, adds: “SMEs are often faced with the challenge of finding the right solution for them from a multitude of existing offers for more IT security in the company. The Sec-O-Mat supports SMEs in selecting and implementing suitable IT security measures.”

The tool can be accessed immediately at www.sec-o-mat.de. Support in the implementation of the TISiM action plan is also offered by the 35 TISiM regional locations at IHKs as well as at other locations. A total of 80 TISiM regional sites will be opened across Germany by the end of the year. In addition, the TISiM mobile will travel to regional contact points and companies in more rural regions throughout Germany to offer support.

A nationwide network of TISiM trainers will provide support in arranging and accompanying the measures directly in the company. “The success of TISiM is conditioned by the willingness of competent partners and networks to contribute their expertise to the support offer,” says Sandra Balz, head of the TISiM office in Berlin-Mitte. “We are therefore pleased about the strong commitment in the TISiM network, which continues to grow every day.”
