The digital transformation offers opportunities for modernizing and opening up science, while modern research faces extensive challenges in the field of data management. The project objective of “Open Science by Design” is to positively influence scientific practice and provide researchers with the best possible support in all phases of the life cycle of research data. To this end, new and innovative methods for (semi-)automatic data management are being developed and evaluated in field tests. The open science infrastructure of the Weizenbaum Institute, a newly founded interdisciplinary research institute, will be used as an experimental platform. The findings will be further validated within the Human-Centered Computing Group at the University of Oxford.

About the Weizenbaum Institute

The Weizenbaum Institute is a joint project of Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Universität der Künste Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Universität Potsdam, Fraunhofer Institute für Open Communication Systems (FOKUS) and WZB Berlin Social Science Center to investigate the social changes brought about by ongoing digitalization, with a budget of 50 million euros.
