FOKUS collaborates on DIN standardization roadmap “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”

News from Dec. 03, 2020

DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung e. V.) presented the ”Artificial Intelligence (AI)“ standardization roadmap at the German government's Digital Summit on November 30, 2020. This implemented one of the twelve action goals of the German government's AI strategy of 2018. Fraunhofer FOKUS was involved in the creation of the roadmap in the application field "Mobility and Logistics" as well as in the topics “Quality, Conformity Assessment, Certification” and “IT Security in AI Systems”.

With the standardization roadmap “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, Deutsches Institut für Normung e. V. has now presented a strategy for the early development of a framework for action for the standardization of AI. Scientists from the Quality Engineering (SQC) business unit at Fraunhofer FOKUS participated in the roadmap with around 300 experts from industry, science, the public sector, and civil society. They were particularly active in the focus areas “Quality, Conformity Assessment and Certification”, “Mobility and Logistics“, and “IT Security in AI Systems”.

Fraunhofer FOKUS identified the topic of artificial intelligence as a strategic issue for the institute some time ago. After all, AI is traded as a central technology that can make cars drive intelligently and autonomously, make supply chains easier to plan, production processes more efficient, and thus also make sustainability goals achievable.

Norms and standards play a key role: they promote the transfer of technologies from research to application and open international markets for companies and their innovations. They define requirements for products, services, and processes and thus promote interoperability and quality.
