“Rock am Ring” cautions attendees with KATWARN

News from May 25, 2016

At the music festival “Rock am Ring” to be held from the 3rd to the 5th of June this year in Mendig, around 90,000 guests are expected. Commencing this year, in order to be better protected in the event of storms or other disturbances to security a special application of the alerting system KATWARN is at your disposal free of cost.

Last year severe storms passed over the grounds of the festival “Rock am Ring” in Mendig: 33 people were injured due to lightning strikes and the stage was partially severely damaged. In order to react quicker and to give the visitors to the festival warning messages and advice on how to react, the local civil protection and disaster response in the county of Mayen-Koblenz will use a special application of the alerting App “KATWARN” for smartphones.

KATWARN is an App for mobile telephones that has been in service since September 2015 in the county Mayen-Koblenz. An especially tailor-made version for the music festival will additionally inform participants and visitors of the music festival about security relevant incidents on the grounds of the festival grounds and will provide first directives for action. The App was developed by the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS in Berlin on behalf of the public insurers. The technical platform is provided by Provinzial Rheinland together with the association of public insurers.

Users of smartphones (iOS, Android, Windows) can download the KATWARN-APP free of cost from the App Store, Google Play Store or the Microsoft Store respectively and can consign the theme “Themen-Abo Rock am Ring” via weblink or can activate it via the QR-Code.
