Meeting of the advisory board 2015: Fraunhofer FOKUS presents itself as competent partner of the digital transformation

On September 17, 2015 the advisory board of Fraunhofer FOKUS came together in Berlin for its annual meeting. The board welcomed Winfried Holz, CEO of ATOS Germany as new member. The response to the new focus on “Digital Networking” was very positive.

The advisory board with representatives from politics, industry and science advises the management in the strategic positioning of Fraunhofer FOKUS. At the beginning of this year's meeting, Andreas Meuer, director of finances, accounting and budget at the Fraunhofer headquarter, introduced the headquarter's view on the scientific and economic environment. The institute directors, Prof. Manfred Hauswirth and Prof. Ina Schieferdecker presented the current status of the institute's strategy planning and gave an overview on activities and figures related to budget and personnel in 2014/ 2015.

As a part of the meeting of the advisory board, each year one Competence Center is presented in detail. This year, Dr. Ilja Radusch introduced the research activities, current projects and highlights of the Competence Center “Automotive Services and Communication Technologies” (ASCT). Central to his presentation were the topics connected and automated driving. During a tour through the ASCT-Lab, scientists explained the simulation environment VSimRTI and demonstrated solutions for interruption-free music streaming in the car and exact indoor navigation.

“I am very happy about the nomination for the advisory board of Fraunhofer FOKUS. The success of the digital transformation in Germany is decided at the interface between science and economy” the new board member Winfried Holz, CEO of ATOS Germany, explained on the occasion of his nomination for the FOKUS advisory board. Holz is responsible for the Germany-branch of the international IT service provider that emerged after the integration of Siemens IT Solutions and Services GmbH in Atos Origin.

In their final statement, the members of the advisory board assessed the development of the institute during the past year as very positive and welcomed the new focus on “Digital Networking”. Last but not least, they emphasized the team performance at FOKUS.
