Daniel-Constantin Mierla is co-founder and project lead of Kamailio SIP Server, a reference open source SIP server implementation used world in large deployments covering telephony over IP, voice over LTE, IoT, instant messaging and user presence services. He has been involved in VoIP/SIP since 2002, being a researcher in the early days of the technology, moving then into private sector to offer consultancy services in the area of real time communications at Asipto.com. A computer science engineer, Daniel is passionate about networking, programming languages, security, scalability and making communication systems accessible and easy to extend for everyone. He is often seen at events world wide advocating the benefits of VoIP and open source real time communication technologies.

Deploying Your Own Enterprise Voice Services

Voice over IP has seen many challenged over the years, from quality of the service, to ability to match established classic telephony features and reliability or the costs of maintenance. Nowadays a variety of the options lead to how to choose the infrastructure - on premises, cloud or mixed; type of deployment - self hosted or managed by white label providers or large carriers. The evolution of technology made some of them more or less equivalent: the Internet connectivity bandwidth improved the QoS; software managed networks and virtualization made it easier for enterprises and small-medium businesses to run private clouds. Given the perspective of 5G, where running own private mobile networks is more accessible, this presentation focuses on the benefits (and pitfalls) of deploying your own voice infrastructure and services from various angles: quality, privacy, flexibility and innovation capabilities as well as available resources for cost effective solutions.
