FOKUS Exhibit "Smart Mobility": Highlight on the CeBIT 2012 Tradeshow

News from Mar. 08, 2012

With the beginning of this years’ CeBIT tradeshow, the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Dr. Annette Schavan visited the Fraunhofer booth. Together with the President of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, Prof. Hans-Jörg Bullinger, she obtained the latest info on innovations about the “Smart Mobility Traffic Management of the Future”.

On the CeBIT FOKUS demonstrates car2x-communication. Using this system for smart traffic and travel management, cars are connected wirelessly and in realtime through smartphones or navigation systems in the vehicle.

FOKUS demonstrates this scenario using a 1.5 x 4 meter model with self-navigating model cars. The exhibit has grown to a great hit on the Fraunhofer booth and attracts both visitors and journalists.

It will be shown how future electric cars are driving independently through Smart Cities – synchronized with the traffic lights system in order to take advantage of a progressive signal system. If required the vehicles even recharge by induction.
