4WARD

Architecture and Design for the Future Internet, Integrated Project (IP)

Jan. 01, 2010 to Dec. 31, 2010

The 7th Framework Program project 4WARD addresses Architecture and Design for the Future Internet. It is developing a set of radical architectural approaches following a clean slate approach and building on a strong mobile and wireless background. Solutions will embrace the full range of technologies, from fiber backbones to wireless and sensor networks. Work focuses on inter-operable and complementary families of network architectures, carrier-grade virtualization of networking resources, network management benefiting from self-managing capabilities, robustness and efficiency by leveraging diversity and putting an information-centric paradigm in place of the old host-centric approach. The 4WARD results will allow new markets to appear, redefining business roles and creating new economic models.
