Abstract

Opportunities for 5G in the Media Domain - From Production to Distribution

Media companies are highly interested in experimenting with 5G as a means to distribute audio-visual content efficiently. A key challenge is to deliver a reliable high-quality service to the consumers' mobile devices even during peak times and popular live events. The talk will present results from different eMBMS trials including a showcase realised by the EBU and IRT during the European Championships in 2018 under the umbrella of the 5G-Xcast project. A possible path towards 5G Broadcasting will be sketched.
