Konstantinos Alexandris received his Ph.D. in Communications and Electronics from Télécom ParisTech, Paris, France, in 2018 and his Diploma and M.Sc. degrees in Electronic and Computer Engineering with distinction from Technical University of Crete, Greece, in 2012 and 2014, respectively. In parallel with his M.Sc. studies, he joined the Telecommunications Circuit Laboratory (TCL) of EPFL, Switzerland, as a Research Assistant. He is currently working as a Telecom R&D engineer at the Communication Systems Department, EURECOM in the field of 5G mobile communication networks and beyond with an emphasis on emerging 5G mobile services. Since 2014, he has been involved in several collaborative research projects in the context of H2020/FP7 framework programmes including project management activities. In addition, he participates in the Mosaic-5G initiative that aims to provide a software-based 4G/5G service delivery platform and he contributes to the development of OpenAirInterface 5G platform features. His research interests lie in the areas of mobile networks (4G/5G), network slicing, SDN, NFV and software-defined radio testbeds. He has received fellowship awards for his undergraduate studies and he was the recipient of the 2012-2013 best Diploma Thesis Award on Advanced Wireless Systems, presented by the IEEE VTS and AESS joint Greece Chapter.

Abstract

The Open5GLab Testbed Facility

Open5GLab testbed facilitates the realization of upcoming 5G technologies providing an end-to-end facility as a collection of platforms for 5G experimentation and validation trials. To this end, we intend to enable multi- and single-domain orchestration and management to reach the goal of testbed scalability and flexibility. The key testbed components are built from OpenAirInterface and Mosaic5G platforms to provide programmable network infrastructures. Particularly, the proposed framework stems from the radio-access network to the core using disaggregated network and computing resources through network slicing. OpenAirInterface (OAI) is a collection of open-source tools managed by the OpenAirInterface Software Alliance (OSA). The collection is composed of Openairinterface5g and OpenairCN standing for the 4G/5G RAN and 4G EPC/5GCORE, respectively. Complementarily to OAI network infrastructure, Mosaic-5G is launched as a non-profit consortium-led initiative that aims to share an ecosystem of open-source software-defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization (NFV), and multi-access edge computing (MEC) toolkits. The constellation of such platform packages can enable an advanced testbed facility to conduct sophisticated experiments satisfying the intended quality-of-experience (QoE) across multiple 5G empowering vertical industries.
