FAME demonstrated solutions for protected video delivery with FAMIUM
Fraunhofer FOKUS Competance Center Future Application and Media (FAME) demonstrated solutions for protected video delivery with FAMIUM at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The FAMIUM framework is an end-to-end prototype implementation meant for early technology evaluation and interoperability testing.
With an end-to-end implementation for browser-based DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over http) and Digital Rights Management (DRM), Fraunhofer FOKUS addresses the need for HTTP adaptive streaming and a common DRM-interoperable encryption, which is a key factor for Internet delivered video.
Moreover FAME showcased solutions with PlayReady®, a content protection technology of Microsoft that includes encryption, output protection and Digital Rights Management. Fraunhofer FOKUS operates as System Integrator for PlayReady®. Benefits will be offered such as Live TV in the browser without plugins, multi-angle and multi-screen content, dynamic advert insertion as well as the synchronization of media playback and adaptive streaming of encrypted media.
FAMIUM bundles several DASH and DRM related functionalities for use in Web applications. It is based on the candidate recommendation W3C Media Source Extensions (MSE) and the working draft Encrypted Media Extensions (EME). MSE and EME enable browsers like Internet Explorer, Chrome and FAMIUM to playback media files via the Set-Top Box.
