Fraunhofer FOKUS and partners launch IT4Energy Innovation Network

News from Sep. 24, 2013

Fraunhofer FOKUS launches together with its partners devolo, Kieback & Peter, MeteoGroup, OpenLimit SignCubes, Sonnenbatterie, Stromnetz Berlin GmbH and WAGO the IT4Energy Innovation Network.

The aim of this cooperation is to develop sustainable IT solutions for the energy turnaround and especially to provide information on chances and challenges of IT applications in the energy sector to third parties. As this project is intended to achieve a wider impact, companies willing to join this network are welcome to apply.

Information and communication technologies (ICT) are key to making power grids, electricity meters and utilization processes smart and sustainable and thus making housing, buildings and whole cities fit for the future. IT4Energy Lab will be an independent platform, showroom and workshop of key technologies for the energy turnaround. Together with our partners, IT4Energy Lab will offer seminars covering various application- and technology-oriented topics.

IT4Energy´s essential goal is to synchronize the rapidly evolving and highly innovative information and communication technologies sector with current and future challenges to energy industry. For that reason, key topics like smart meters, integration of future smart homes up to virtual power plants will be addressed. Fraunhofer develops products and procedures from initial ideas up to technological and economic maturity. IT4Energy Lab and the IT4Energy Innovation Network are means to further support these efforts and to successfully establish them in the growing market of smart grids.
