Reliability capabilities and requirements for an NFV Orchestrator
Society relies on network services to develop fundamental daily functions. Therefore, before a commercial scale NFV implementation, operators must guarantee that such technology is highly reliable. In traditional proprietary network functions, the definition of responsibilities and SLAs were easier than in NFV. The tradeoff between the reliability advantages of NFV (automation, global view, etc.) and the drawbacks (complexity, subsystem interdependence, etc.) is to date still unclear. In this context, the understanding of the reliability capabilities and requirements of the NFV Orchestrator is fundamental to have a clearer view on this issue.
This talk will focus on the elements that an NFV Orchestrator needs to consider in order to guarantee reliable operations. It describes the challenges posed from the standardization point of view, the internal reliability features on the orchestrator, as well as the technical requirements on its interaction with the different elements of the NFV ecosystem.
