Fraunhofer FOKUS presents itself in Image Brochure “Engineering ICT for Smart Cities“

News from Nov. 27, 2012

Since July 2012, the former Institutes FOKUS, FIRST and ISST-Berlin have been working together under the name Fraunhofer FOKUS. They want to develop information and communication systems that will lead industry, administration and society into a modern future. The new structure of Fraunhofer FOKUS with its application-oriented Competence Centers is now being introduced in the FOKUS Image Brochure, which was released in November 2012.

Under the slogan “Engineering ICT for Smart Cities”, the brochure shows in what ways the technologies of FOKUS contribute to the communication infrastructures of tomorrow’s smart cities.

As a basis for the seamless communication among people and between humans and machines, “Smart Communication Technologies“ are being developed at FOKUS. They provide the foundation for concrete applications. Current research topics in the areas eGovernment, eHealth, Public Safety, Smart Mobility and Smart Energy are presented by the heads of the Competence Centers. The domain “Methods and Tools” shows which processes and tools are necessary for the development and quality assurance of the required software and hardware.  The new Image Brochure gives an account of which topics are currently being researched, how the technologies are already integrated in cities today, and which exciting challenges have to be faced in the future.
