Public Alerting and Social Media: International conference at Fraunhofer FOKUS

From October 30 to November 1, 2013, Fraunhofer FOKUS will be hosting the international conference on “Public Alerting and Social Media during Crisis and Disasters”. This event will be attended by 100 international political and administrative decision makers, researchers and specialists in the field of risk management.

The conference is organized by the International Emergency Management Society TIEMS in cooperation with the Opti-Alert project coordinator Fraunhofer FOKUS and the International Risk Governance Council (IRGC).

The main topics that will be discussed during the conference are:

  • Alerting methods and techniques
  • Different social media and their potential usefulness for crisis communication
  • Opportunities and challenges with social media in crisis and disasters – case studies
  • Future developments and expectations of public alerting and social media.
