Fraunhofer FOKUS drives forward development of IPTV in Consumer Electronics and Telecommunications

With the vision bringing together Telcos and CE industry the Open IPTV Forum starts specifying a common and open end-to-end platform for supplying variety of internet multimedia and IPTV services to retail based consumer equipment. Ensuring the interoperability between a broad base of retail consumer equipment and services the Open IPTV Forum intends to fill the gaps between the islands of standardization.

The Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS a member of the international pan-industry Open IPTV Forum (OIPF). In cooperation with other partners of the Forum FOKUS will bring in its full expertise in converged and personalized IPTV, and also act as a bridge, linking up members from the consumer electronics branch with broadcasters and telecommunications professionals. FOKUS will also open up its reference platform for standardized IPTV solutions to the Forum for joint developments, in line with the Forum goals which aim for the merging of media and telecommunications services. The Open IPTV Forum brings together leading vendors and operators from the consumer electronics and telecommunications branches. Founder members were Samsung, Philips, Panasonic, Sony, Ericsson, France Telecom, NSN and Telecom Italia, whilst the roll-call of new members includes such names as Deutsche Telekom, Huawei and Intel.
