Opium
Open Platform for Integration of UMTS Middleware
The project validates the introduction of new wireless applications in Europe - based on a combination of new wireless protocols (GPRS and UMTS) and emerging value added service platforms based on the OSA/Parlay API. The project brings together network operators, equipment vendors, service providers and system integrators, who integrate their networks, service and middleware platforms, and applications by building five distributed UMTS/GPRS service infrastructure test beds (Germany, UK, Spain, Portugal and China) and interconnecting dedicated test beds for performing service trails across different domains. The German test bed is represented by the FOKUS 3Gb test bed, provided by FOKUS and IKV++ Technologies AG.
