Fraunhofer FOKUS Innovation Office for Information and Communication Technology
The FOKUS competence center Next Generation Network Infrastructures (NGNI) provides the expertise and technologies for future communication technologies offering seamless access to services and applications related to various application domains. Taking advantage of our experiences gained in the fields of fixed mobile convergence and telecoms and Internet convergence, as well as from active research in the fields of the Future Internet (FI), namely the Internet of Services (IoS) and Internet of Things (IoT), the competence center NGNI is focussing on the progressing convergence of human-to-human and machine-to-machine communications within emerging Smart City infrastructures. In this regard, the globally recognised NGNI testbed toolkits, such as OpenIMS Core, OpenEPC and OpenMTC, stemming from the Future Seamless Communication (FUSECO) Playground as well as the Open Communication Server, Telco Communicator Suite and WebRTC Telco Stack from the Smart Communications Playground are building the foundation for prototyping various Smart City applications, such as Smart Power Grids, eMobility, eHealth, and eGovernment.
