With its technology-focussed, enterprise-oriented test and development environment, FOKUS gives customers from industry and research an unparalleled infrastructure of networks, platforms, application software, testing environments and much more. In addition, FOKUS also provides the benefits of its extensive technology expertise. MOTION participates in the labs.
The new Automotive Lab at the Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS in Berlin offers research and development services for automobile manufacturers and suppliers in the field of the development and testing of software-intensive automotive electronic systems. The Automotive Lab’s open range of services is neither geared nor biased to any particular company, but rather dedicated to supporting the competitiveness and the future of the whole European automobile and supplier industry through the promotion of optimized methods and innovative information and communication technology.

The CertLab of Fraunhofer FOKUS, authorized by the BSI, conducts certification procedures under the observation of the BSI. In order to keep up with the growing number of certification procedures, the BSI outsourced the monitoring of the evaluation facilities during evaluation procedures in part to Fraunhofer FOKUS. In coordination with the BSI certifiers, the employees of the CertLab take over the monitoring of the evaluation facilities during the evaluation of a software product up to EAL4. The whole certification procedure remains under the authority of the BSI.

Autonomic Communication (AC) is a vision that FOKUS has brought to the international debate and which is set to become increasingly interesting for industry as a future means of efficiently and effectively managing distributed systems on all levels of information and communication technology.
Experimentation and validation of AC technologies, however, require the availability of large-scale testbeds, supporting the gathering and interpretation of data under a large variety of different situations.
The FOKUS AC-Lab answers this challenge by offering AC related tools, methods and a powerful environment for the emulation and simulation of networking and communication technologies, of end devices and network elements, configurations and topologies:
The ACware toolkit provides software frameworks and tools for the experimentation with Autonomic Communication approaches.
The AC Assessment Framework provides a catalog of methods, tools and metrics to evaluate and verify AC technologies from various angles.
Researchers of new AC technologies have the opportunity to run tests as well as simulations under real-world conditions concerning network size, heterogeneity and structure. Virtualisation software and a unified device management solution allow for the agile set-up of arbitrary experimentation and test scenarios.
