Model-based development

Software is in many areas the driving force for innovations -  for example in telecommunication, automotive and avionics. Software development is however burdened with tremendous risks and continuously increasing costs. Up to 75% of all development projects do not meet their objectives or do not adhere to their budget.

Model-based development is a promising method to counteract this phenomenon. In future, models will be in the center of all development activities. This applies to requirements capture and management as well as to test case specification and integration of components. Different models are transformed into each other automatically and related to each other. The consistency of information used within a development process is checked by tools and assured throughout the development. This effectively lowers costs and reduces risks.

In our working area on model-based development, we are investigating and developing modern technologies, methods and tools for the optimization and automation of development processes using model-based techniques. We integrate tools in open development environments and concentrate on a seamless integration of system development and testing. We are applying and  actively contributing to leading industrial standards such as UML 2.0, MOF, OCL and TTCN-3.
