SOA-Governance in the eGovernment-Lab

The Fraunhofer FOKUS SOA Lab uses eGovernance tools for administration of the scenarios realized in the eGovernment Lab together with the tools deployed by them, and their services and resources. The CentraSite – a so-called ‘SOA Registry and Repository’ from Software AG – produces fully complete descriptions of all objects and, crucially, their interconnections. Thus the services deployed by a particular scenario can be identified and, conversely, it is also possible to see just which service is affected by any modification. In a first stage one of the many extant scenarios is selected from the perspective of an architecture review and its service design is mapped. This offers a simple means of registering the services involved in a scenario. Individual service dependencies – such as those of the payment service deployed in a wide range of different scenarios in the Lab – can easily be identified. The high level of transparency afforded the objects deployed by the scenarios supports precise identification of the impact of any service modification while also documenting the architecture-related part of the SOA lifecyle.
