Process-oriented eGovernment and the realization of service-oriented architectures isn’t just a question of installing the right technology and Web services – it begins very early on with process planning on the workflow level. A joint co-operation between the Fraunhofer eGovernment Lab, IDS-Scheer AG and ORACLE Deutschland GmbH now shows what the development path leading from business process modeling to technical realization can look like. Whilst earlier attempts were limited by a system disconnect between business process modeling and technical realization, a variety of tools can now be used to bridge the gap between business processes and IT services. The ARIS Business Architect and SOA Architect enable the capture and documentation of business processes and their export as standardized description language. They can then be further processed by any kind of standards-compliant development tool in support of the orchestration of technical services needed for the realization of specialist applications. Thus a critical gap in the SOA development process is now closed. The orchestration is based on the Oracle Process Manager.
