Document Interoperability for use in eGovernment

Document Interoperability for use in eGovernment* Version 2 (May 2006) - Integration of XML-based Document Content in Public Administration Processes

Since fall 2004 the FOKUS eGovernment Lab has used a variety of application scenarios to evaluate seamless interoperability between a range of products and technologies from different vendors and from the open source sector. In the specially constructed Interoperability Lab products from various administration applications, basic services and eGovernment platforms based on a broad spectrum of technologies such as J2EE and .NET are test run for interoperability and integratability. In the specially constructed Interoperability Lab products from various administration applications, basic services and eGovernment platforms based on a broad spectrum of technologies such as J2EE and .NET are test run for interoperability and integratability.

In the first study run in this environment FOKUS tested interoperability for Microsoft Word 2003 and OpenOffice org. WRITER 1.1.4 and products of the Adobe LiveCycle Series for XML Integration in PDF Documents.

The same tests were run for both products using a variety of eGovernment applications and eGovernment platforms. Testing deployed a unified XML data structure based on the W3C standard. Open standards such as WSDL (Web Service Definition Language) were used to communicate with the various eGovernment platforms.

The series of Fraunhofer FOKUS eGovernment White Papers will present papers on aspects of such topics as interoperability, process integration, eGovernment architectures etc. which are also intended as open living documents to be continually revised and re-scripted in an effort to incorporate new discussion findings, current developments and the latest results from the eGovernment Laboratory, and to engage the actors involved in eGovernment in debate.

If you have any comments on the White Paper please send an email to the editor Uwe Holzmann- Kaiser

*Remark

In the White Paper we could only consider products of those partners, who have been partner in the eGovernment Lab during the investigation period.
