S.A.F.E. - Secure Access to Federated E-Justice/E-Government

Under the slogan "My ego in the network" the North Rhine-Westphalia's Justice Minister Roswitha Müller-Piepenkötter presented the possibilities for identity management and secure registration with the new German identity card in online services of the German judiciary. The objective is to avoid the complexity of classical user management, for example, in requests to the land or commercial registers.

An alternative to the individual user management in each application is an identity management system using the new German ID card. The Justice Portal of the Federal and State Governments provides already a central platform and entry point for all judicial information in Germany.

Following the speech by Justice Minister Roswitha Müller-Piepenkötter the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Fraunhofer FOKUS, Microsoft and bremen online services demonstrated a potential scenario in the context of the Project S.A.F.E. (Secure Access to Federated E-Justice/E-Government). S.A.F.E. supports ‘single sign on’ in the judicial portal.

For the initial registration with the S.A.F.E. registration server the eID-service of Governikus from bremen online services is used. Using the eCard-API the required ID card data is read and verified. Access to the Microsoft SharePoint based Demo Portal is ensured by previously created information cards in Microsoft CardSpace.

This scenario illustrates the interworking of a new identity card, user-centric identity management and the selection of user information and data at the client side. The user thus can completely control the data that is transmitted.
