The main goal was to evaluate future advertising solutions for Next Generation Networks. The solution was developed within three complementary phases with the following results:
I – Understand the needs for advertising
To understand users’ needs, desires or intentions towards future advertising and its integration with other multimedia services, a survey was performed by the students. Results showed that users are mainly looking for Personalization, Contextualization, Interactivity, Mobility, Privacy, and Adaptation.
II - Define a generic metadata format for cross service/platform advertising solution
As an appropriate metadata format describing personal, social, and environmental context information of users and advertisers MPEG-21 was selected as a description format. This information is stored as an XML document in the FOKUS XDMS.
III – Advertising Logic Engine
An architectural framework for an advertising engine acting as an enabler for contextualized advertising has been developed. The main purpose was to illustrate context-based advertisementbased on on pre-defined rules for users and advertisers. The figure below shows the interactions between the FOKUS components involved in this process. This prototype implementation allowed us to show how future personalized advertisement might be realized on top of NGN for converging networks and service domains.Used FOKUS software: XDMS
