What is the »Open IMS Playground«?

It is OPEN in a sense that it is in a constant process of evolving. It is open to new partners, new components, new technologies, as well as new concepts and paradigms.

It is IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) centric. This means that it contains the latest IMS technology, conforms to the latest IMS specifications, and generally reflects the current state of the art in the field of IMS.

It is a PLAYGROUND. We see a Playground as a technology focused test environment, where we can “play” around with the latest technology. However, this is more than something to toy around with. It is a mature testbed, a test laboratory, where benchmarking, conformance tests and interoperability tests are carried out for our partners, and where components resulting from own development can be deployed and operated.

Review 2nd FOKUS FUSECO Forum 2011

The 2nd international FOKUS Future Seamless Communication (FUSECO) Forum themed “From FMC toward Total Convergence: New Applications and Platforms for Converging Mobile and Fixed Next Generation Networks and the Emerging Future Internet” has been held in the Fraunhofer Forum in the center of Berlin, Germany on November 17–18, 2011. The event was attended by around 200 industry and academic experts from more than 30 nations.

Fraunhofer FOKUS hosted the 10 Years SER Conference

Celebrating 10 Years of Open Source Innovations in VoIP On the 2nd of September 2011, the Fraunhofer FOKUS Institute had the pleasure of marking the 10th anniversary since of the SIP Express Router project, by hosting a day long conference to celebrate the milestone. The free-of-charge event has been organized together with the project's community and was set to be a success even before it started, as all the available seats have been filled with an amazing pace.

OpenEPC Release 3 Developments on Track

Our current OpenEPC Release 2 has been since its launch in April 2011 requested in high demand. A healthy community of universities, research institutes and telco vendors was established and pushes the developments even further. Additionally OpenEPC is starting to be used in technological field trials with large operators, integrating with in-production UMTS and LTE networks and rapidly filling functionality gaps.

Dynamics for Internet services onboard the vehicle

Traffic systems and mobile Internet services have one thing in common: the dynamics of their use is difficult to predict. How the available bandwidth of the data channels can be adjusted flexibly to meet the requirements of the mobile Internet with the help of the LTE-Netzen (Long Term Evolution) is being demonstrated by Fraunhofer FOKUS and mobile service provider Vodafone.
